Favorite Books 2019

Last year, I tried a different format for picking a favorite book because I had so much trouble picking just one. I liked it so much that I'm sticking with it. However, if someone forced me to pick, Circe by Madeline Miller was my overall favorite, followed closely by Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu. The books are listed alphabetically by author's last name with a very short blurb about the style of the book.

Bull by David Elliott

A creative and darkly comedic re-telling of the story of the Minotaur written in verse with incredible use of space and different types of poetry.

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green

An unexpectedly good Sci-Fi-ish with a bit of a mystery novel from the lesser famous Green brother.

The Dry by Jane Harper

An impressive rural noir mystery wrapped in past mystery in the detective's home town.

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

A novel of a little bit of everything - supernatural, horror, romance, and coming-of-age - and extremely beautiful prose.

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu

Awesome and rad Riot Grrrl realistic feminism in a high school setting.

Circe by Madeline Miller

An extremely beautiful addition to the background and mythology of Circe with a heavy dose of realism and a lot of relationships.

Sadie by Courtney Summers

An excellent YA mystery but a must listen audiobook told in the style of a podcast.

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

A timely read set in the same universe as the wildly popular The Hate U Give, but possibly even better.
